The oxytocin signalling gene pathway contributes to the association between loneliness and cardiometabolic health

Increasing evidence has shown adverse effects of loneliness on cardiometabolic health. Oxytocin been linked with social cognition and behaviour, however, recently also energy metabolism obesity suggesting that oxytocin may underlie common mechanisms bridging mental somatic traits. To clarify whether the system contributes to links between health loneliness, we calculated genetic contribution single nucleotide polymorphisms in pathway polygenic architecture body mass index (BMI) their associations composition (body MRI bone mineral density), blood markers, pressure. We compared such those 100 random gene-sets UK-Biobank. Our analysis revealed significant (all FDRs below.05) an oxytocin-pathway score (PGS) for BMI abdominal subcutaneous fat, HDL, triglycerides, lipoprotein(a), density, as well PGS apolipoprotein A1. These results provide signalling pathway's role homeostasis, lipid storage, oxytocin's pleiotropic effects.
